GitHub repositories as a knowledge source

Contents

Private beta

Business Knowledge is in private beta. If Business Knowledge isn't in your PostHog sidebar, your project isn't in the beta yet. Send feedback in the app.

PostHog does not index your repositories

Your code is not indexed, and PostHog doesn't search inside files. Business Knowledge searches file names and README text, then reads the matching file from GitHub when an answer needs it.

GitHub repositories let Business Knowledge read repositories you select as context when it answers a question.

Connect a repository in Business Knowledge settings. The setting is shown when GitHub repositories are enabled for your project.

Each environment keeps its own repository list.

How repositories are referenced

Business Knowledge searches your repositories only when document search finds nothing. It matches file names and identifiers, not full sentences, then reads the file and returns its text with a permalink.

Connect

  1. Install the PostHog GitHub App if it isn't installed yet.
  2. Open Business Knowledge settings.
  3. Under GitHub repositories, connect the installation.
  4. Add repositories and choose Save repositories.

You can select up to 100 repositories.

Disconnect

Disconnect stops Business Knowledge from reading those repositories. The GitHub App stays installed.
